Our Coaches

Ever since the Atherton pool opened 55 years ago, Club squads `big pool’ action have been conducted under the care of the Atherton Swimming Club Head Coach, appointed each season.

Head Coach Carrie is a bronze level coach. She brings over 10 years of teaching and coaching experience to the club from a variety of sporting backgrounds. Her passion is swimming and developing an inclusion culture (almost team family) to benefit all children within the club. She believes that all children can fulfill their potential whatever their goal in sport and life through quality programs, in and out of the pool. She also believes that enjoyment is a big part of driving success for individuals regardless of whether you are swimming for fitness, fun or competition

picture-carrie-for-blue-bookCarrie will be supported by Penny Soper who has been the Atherton pool lessee for over ten years.  Penny has dedicated professional skills, passion and drive to ensure club squad swimmers achieve their goals and realise their dreams.

picture-penny-for-blue-bookPenny is a bronze level coach.  She has a long history with Atherton Platypus Swimming, first joining the club as a six year old.  She is still swimming competitively, winning national masters’ events in her age group.  Her mother Margaret Soper is often behind the counter at the Swim Logic kiosk, an Atherton Swimming Club Life Member.

Occasionally other learn to swim teachers may join us on pool deck from time to time.

Swim Logic’s LTS coordinator Sarah Gampe also has a long history with Atherton Swimming Club Inc.  Sarah served as race night recorder with the club for many years.  Her mother Pat Gampe is a Club Life Member.  Pat and Sylvia Hole have worked on a fantastic Club trophy history.

Head Coach and/or designated Swim Logic staff will allocate swimmers to a squad best suited to their skill level and/or swimming goals.  For more information about placement criteria, see Carrie or designated staff.
